La Verderie June 13 Day One

I am back in France with Sue and John Culligan and their lovely golden retriever Bebop for another knit and crochet retreat. Whilst the weather hasn't been particularly kind today we have had a lovely first day crocheting in the studio surrounded by the sounds of the French countryside, including cockerels, cuckoos and barking dogs!

Most of us have worked on beaded pin wheel stitch today - the combination of the lovely Debbie Abrahams beads and the gorgeous colours from the Rowan range of Cotton Glace makes this stitch so much fun - but we all learnt pretty quickly how important it is to concentrate!

Sue has a new roomy studio which has plenty of natural light making it the perfect surrounding for knitting and crocheting. This evening we were treated to some sunshine in the garden. The image below shows retreat participants Hannah, Christine and Sue enjoying an aperitif in the early evening sun.

As always the food has been amazing - a light lunch of salad nicoise, cheese and fruit was followed tonight by a roasted pepper starter, a chicken and sausage casserole for main course and a scrumptious pudding of home made cheesecake. As always the wine has been flowing and we are all relaxing into what promises to be a great week.
