Mini Boutique

We are really excited to announce that we now have our very own JANIE CROW 'mini boutique' at Herts Crafts Collective in Radlett. We set up the stand on Thursday and even though it is pretty small we have managed to cram it full of bright and colourful things.

Our mini boutique is on the end wall and despite the fact that it is not even 2 meters wide we are really happy with the amount of things we will be able to do with the space. For now we have dressed the space with lots of crochet related stuff and there will be some of the workshop projects on show over the next few months. Our range of crochet hooks are in stock within the boutique and we have Holz and Stein knitting needle on sale at just £12.95 - £14.95 a pair.

We have some exciting workshops planned at the Craft Collective, including knitted fair isle, crochet with beads and freeform crochet. Below is a list of all the new workshops:

5th July: Beaded Crochet

This workshop will show you how to work beads into your crochet stitches to add a lovely bit of sparkle and excitement to your crochet projects. Beaded crochet is a really easy technique to master and this workshop will show you how to choose the right beads for your project, how to thread them onto your yarn and how to put beads into a double crochet and a treble crochet stitch. Jane will also show you how to make some beaded edgings and how to work from a chart.
Participants need to bring a simple sewing kit to include a knitters sewing needle and scissors and a 3mm & 3.5mm crochet hook. A notebook and pencil is also useful *

A small project kit containing Rowan Yarns and the beads needed to complete the project is included in the price of the workshop.
Skill Level: Participants should have a good knowledge of crochet stitches, terms and abbreviations

2nd August: Crochet Colour Work

This workshop will show you how to work with different colours of yarn in your crochet project. You will be shown how to change yarn shade neatly and efficiently, how to work the jacquard and intarsia methods and how to follow a charted design. Participants will also be shown how to sew and weave yarn ends in.
Participants need to bring a simple sewing kit to include a knitters sewing needle and scissors and a 3mm & 3.5mm crochet hook. Some stitch markers/holders would also be handy. A notebook and pencil is also useful *

Skill Level: Participants should have a good knowledge of crochet stitches, terms and abbreviations

21st September: Fun with Crochet - how to work in a freeform way!

This is a fun workshop aimed at anyone who wants to have fun with the craft of crochet! There will be no rules and no patterns to work from! Participants will be encouraged to play with stitch combinations to create a ‘freeform’ piece of 3D crochet, which could be used as a corsage, broach, key ring or bag charm.
Participants need to bring a simple sewing kit to include a knitters sewing needle and scissors and a selection of crochet hook sizes *
Jane will bring along a stash of yarns for participants to work with, and whilst this is provided within the workshop fee, it is beneficial for participants to bring along pieces from home, such as yarn oddments, ribbons, buttons and beads to use within their projects. Variegated and fashion yarns are especially effective when used in freeform crochet.

Skill Level: Participants should have a relatively good knowledge of crochet stitches, but do not need to know how to read a pattern or follow complicated instructions

9th November: Fairisle Knitting Techniques - small bag project

Fairisle is a historical knitting technique where 2 yarns are used in each row to create multi-coloured designs. Participants will be shown how to hold the yarn and avoid tangled threads. Jane will demonstrate how to work the single hand and two-handed methods. Tips will be given on how to weave and sew in yarn ends and how to achieve a neat and even tension. Participants will also be shown how to add beads into their knitted project.
Participants need to bring a simple sewing kit to include a knitters sewing needle and scissors and a pair of 3mm & 3.25mm knitting needles. A notebook and pencil is also useful *

Jane has designed a small fairisle and beaded knitted bag (which would make a great Christmas gift) which participants will work on during the workshop. The project kit, containing Rowan Yarns and beads, is included in the price of the workshop.

Skill Level: Participants should have a good knowledge of knitting stitches, terms and abbreviations

7th December: Crochet a Christmas Decoration

Come along for a fun festive day of crochet and make a last minute gift/decoration using some new crochet skills including beading and simple colour changing techniques. This is a good workshop for anyone who wants to learn how to read a simple crochet pattern and follow and easy chart. Participants will be shown how to add beads into a double crochet stitch and how to work in the round to create a lovely decoration which could hang on your Christmas tree or be used as the basis for a corsage.
Participants need to bring a simple sewing kit to include a knitters sewing needle and scissors and a 2.5, 3 & 3.5mm crochet hook. A notebook and pencil is also useful *

A small project kit containing Rowan Yarns needed to complete the project and the beads is included in the price of the workshop.
Skill Level: Participants should have a reasonable knowledge of crochet stitches

* please note: There will be a chance to borrow or purchase any equipment you don’t have, so please don’t go out and buy equipment especially.
