Last weekend I was up at Green lane Mill doing a freeform crochet workshop for Rowan Yarns. The group were AMAZING and really got to grips with the idea of working without a pattern. All participants started off by making a 'flower' from the same pattern, but soon these developed into very different pieces, some became frilly, others had petals and leaves attached, but each one was totally unique and diverse.Working from a design source the ladies then went on to create their own freeform pieces. Some went on to tackle scumbling which is like a crochet version of patchwork. Others tried to reproduce their design inspiration in a more literal way and ended up with pieces that looked like flowers and leaves. There was even a rather wonderful seahorse produced by Avril.
It was a really great weekend. I hope I get to see some finished freeform pieces......
